Vineyard

Viña El Descanso is located in the Curicó Valley, which is part of the Maule Region, between the Andes Mountains and the Coastal Range, 200 km (125 mi) south of Santiago and 170 m (558 ft) above sea level.

Its Mediterranean climate produces long, dry summers with temperatures that reach 32ºC (90ºF) on the warmest days, while cool nights allow the fresh fruit aromas and depth of flavour to develop. Winters are cold and rainy, with temperatures that range from 0º–12ºC (32º–54ºF).

Geographically it is defined by the mountains and hills that surround it and which help to ensure the grapes ripen properly, resulting in wines that are ripe, well-rounded, and nicely balanced.

The Mataquito River, which starts at the confluence of the Lontué and Teno Rivers, passes close to the El Descanso vineyards and provides irrigation water for the vines. The loam and clay-loam soils are fertile and deep, which allows the production of high qualitygrape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Semillón.
